Al Bowlly was a musician, vocalist, and songwriter born on January 7, 1899, in Mozambique. He moved to England in the 1920s and became one of the country's most popular singers during the 1930s. One of his most famous songs was "Heartaches," which was written by Al Hoffman and John Klenner in 1931. Bowlly recorded the hit song in 1932, and it reached number six on the U.S. charts. It became one of his signature songs and is considered a classic of the era. Sadly, Bowlly died on April 17, 1941, during the Blitz bombing in London at the age of 42. Despite his relatively short career, he was an influential and beloved figure in the world of music.
